Cooking with Non-stick Pans

Cooking with Nonstick Pans

Many factors contribute to convenient and hassle-free cooking and having a set of durable, reliable and well-designed cooking tools and utensils is one of them. Housewives and chefs know how useful a non-stick pan is in every kitchen. This extra feature added to most cookware has certainly improved cooking in a lot of ways.

Non-stick pans

These pans are usually coated with Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), most commonly known as Teflon.

Advantages of Cookware with Non-stick properties

  1. It allows you to cook food without using much oil or butter.
  2. It makes clean-up really easy.
  3. It is absolutely safe.
  4. It has scratch-resistant properties.
  5. Non-stick pans allow even distribution of heat.

Using Non-stick pans properly

Even with the non-stick property being such a helpful feature for these types of pans, it doesn’t mean that it will last forever. In fact, the material that gives these pans their non-stick feature, Teflon, wears off after some time. But you don’t have to worry about that; as long as you’re using your non-stick pan properly, you will be able to enjoy cooking with it for a long  time. Here are a few tips:

  1. Don’t cook at high heat: Cooking at high temperature, , especially if done often, results in  Teflon  deteriorating faster than it should. Another reason to avoid cooking at high heat is that some non-stick material used in the pan release unhealthy, toxic substances. Heat ranges vary for different products. Follow the instructions on your non-stick pan.
  1. Don’t use non-stick cooking spray: Using non-stick cooking spray is a big no-no. Aside from its  toxic substance  it creates a sticky build-up of the remaining spray which does not get burnt during cooking. It would take a lot of effort to clean and scrub the grease off the pan. For non-stick pans, only use whole fats such as butter or oil.
  1. Pre-seasoning the pan will help improve flavour of your food while making the pan last longer:. It is  not very common among housewives and chefs but seasoning the pan before using it is an effective way to keep  the pan in good shape. After washing and drying the pan, rub a teaspoon of oil all over inside of the pan using a paper towel or a clean cloth.
  1. Avoid using sharp or abrasive spoons and spatulas: Not all non-stick pans have high quality Teflon material. It can still easily be scratched and scraped. To avoid rubbing or tearing the surface and creating any scratch marks, use wooden or ceramic spatulas.
  1. Don’t clean your non-stick pan in a dishwasher:. Things such as steel wool should not be used to clean it. Some products may claim that they’re dishwasher-safe but this is no guarantee. It is still better to check product review sites and hear what other customers have to say about the product you are interested in buying.

Non-stick pans certainly bring convenience to your everyday cooking routine. You just need to choose the products which aren’t all talk. If you want to get some legit reviews for some best-sellers, check out our recommendations.
